Olives and wine

The Appelation d'Origine Contrôlée of Nyons, a
famous kind of olive oil, is made from olives called "tanche" and "picholine".
The olives are harvested around Christmas.
Olive products:
Olive oil
In Mirabel aux Baronnies, we have 2 olive oil
mills, that are both selling their oil directly to customers.
-
Farnoux
(Le Vieux Moulin) in the middle of the village
- Bayle (Le Chameil), on the way to Vinsobres
Consumption olives and tapenades
The olives themselves can be found on the
weekly markets in Nyons (Thursdays) and in Vaison la Romaine (Tuesdays). They
are also for sale in the local supermarkets and in the Cave
Coöpérative in Nyons.
Wines and vineyards
In Mirabel aux Baronnies, you are in the midst of the Côte du Rhône
vineyards, well known for their AOC and AOC Villages.
Most of the winegrowers bring
their grapes to the Caves Coopératives in Vinsobres and St. Maurice.

Still we do have 2 independant winegrowers, who bottle their excellent wines
themselves: one of them is the domain of Christophe
et Corinne Roux, Domaine La Taurelle (on the way to Nyons). Their
grounds are between Mirabel and Nyons. One third of their winegrapes is
harvested without machinery. The rosés from La Taurelle do deserve a winetasting
visit.
Truffles
In the Baronnies region, around Mirabel, 90% of the French
truffle demand is found, by specially trained dogs. The truffles,
a real delicacy,
are called black or white truffles, depending if they have been
found in winter or in summer. The black one are more tasty than
the white ones. They are sold on the Richerenches market, where
many Parisian specialists buy their truffles. Most of the time
without asking for an invoice.
